TX SB 1791 relates to the effects of unresponsive insureds for a personal automobile insurance policy. As written, the bill would require an insurer to make at least five attempts to contact an unresponsive insured before being required to pay the third-party claimant in accordance with the policy”. See also Texas HB 5071. This bill passed Committee to the local Senate uncontested calendar.

The Coalition has opposed Texas SB 1791. As written and without further clarification, there are concerns that this would create motivation for organized fraud and unfairly penalize Texas consumers.
